Ole Miss Opens Fall Football Practice with Returning Players Healthy
The Ole Miss football team began fall camp this week at the University of Mississippi, marking the start of preparations for the 2026 season, according to a news release from the university.
Head coach Pete Golding and several players met with local media Thursday to discuss the opening day. Golding highlighted the return of injured players, including defensive linemen Edwin Joseph and Jordan Renaud, praising their progress over the summer.
“Those two have the ability to be really good players,” Golding said. “Edwin’s had a really good summer. He’s got unique abilities and versatility. Jordan has improved in the weight room and provides a different presence on the edge.”
Golding noted that overall, the team is in good health with only minor injuries to monitor. He emphasized the focus shifting from teaching concepts to creating game-like situations to prepare the team for the season opener against Louisville in Nashville.
“It’s about putting players in as many realistic situations as possible,” Golding explained. “We want to make sure no situation catches us off guard when the season begins. We’re checking all those boxes in camp.”
The coach also praised the integration of newcomers, stating that the team culture emphasizes toughness and competitiveness. He expects several new players to emerge as leaders during the season.
Meanwhile, players discussed the seamless transition to offensive coordinator John David Baker’s system. Chambliss credited Golding for maintaining offensive stability and praised Baker’s familiarity with the scheme.
Quarterback Kincaid Lacy expressed confidence in his leadership role and the team’s focus on daily improvement. Despite national attention on his Heisman campaign, Lacy said he remains committed to the team’s goals.
Running back Kewan Lacy also highlighted the depth of the backfield, praising transfer Makhi Frazier for his energy and speed, which adds explosiveness to the offense.
Ole Miss fans can follow ongoing updates and content through the team’s official channels as fall camp continues.
