Mississippi State’s Kyle Ferrie Named to Lou Groza Preseason Watch List

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State senior kicker Kyle Ferrie has been named to the 2026 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award preseason watch list, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Friday.

Entering his fourth season as the Bulldogs’ starting kicker, Ferrie is poised to rewrite the school’s record book. He is already Mississippi State’s all-time leading kick-scorer and is closing in on additional milestones. Ferrie needs just six more field goals to become the program’s all-time leader in that category and 39 more points to surpass all other players in school history, regardless of position.

Last season, Ferrie made 17 of 20 field goal attempts, with a long of 55 yards, according to the release. The Lou Groza Award, now in its 35th year, honors college football’s top placekicker. The preseason watch list features 35 of the best returning kickers from across the country, though all FBS kickers remain eligible for semifinalist selection during the season.

A panel of more than 100 experts, including coaches, sports information directors, media members, and former finalists, will choose 20 semifinalists on Nov. 17. Three finalists will be announced Nov. 24, with the national winner revealed Dec. 10 during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
