Ole Miss Baseball Hosts No. 5 Georgia for Key SEC Series

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball, ranked 17th nationally, will face fifth-ranked Georgia in a three-game SEC series at Swayze Field this weekend. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m., with subsequent games on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m., according to university officials.

The Rebels (30-12, 10-8 SEC) enter the matchup after winning 11 of their last 13 games. They defeated Murray State 19-2 Tuesday, with Judd Utermark hitting two home runs. Ole Miss also secured two of three games against Tennessee last weekend, marking their first series win in Knoxville since 2016. Tristan Bissetta was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, hitting four home runs and batting .500 last week. Cade Townsend earned SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after delivering his third straight quality start.

Ole Miss’s pitching staff has struck out 474 batters this season, second in the SEC and fifth nationally. Cade Townsend has a 1.73 ERA, the third-lowest in the conference, and Hayden Federico has been hitting .474 over the last 13 games. Will Furniss will make his 200th career start for the Rebels on Friday, opening against Georgia’s Joey Volchko, who boasts a 6-2 record and a 3.75 ERA.

Georgia (32-10, 13-5 SEC) enters the series with a potent offense and strong pitching. The Bulldogs lead the SEC with a .324 batting average, 461 hits, 402 runs, and 116 home runs. Junior outfielder Daniel Jackson has launched 20 home runs this season. The projected starting rotation features Joey Volchko on Friday and Dylan Vigue on Sunday, both of whom have impressive strikeout numbers and limited home runs allowed.

Georgia’s coach Wes Johnson is in his third season, having guided the Bulldogs to over 100 wins and a recent resurgence in SEC play.
