Mississippi State Women’s Golf Makes Sixth Straight NCAA Tournament Appearance

Mississippi State women’s golf has earned its sixth straight NCAA Tournament bid, a program record, the school announced Wednesday. The Bulldogs were seeded third in the Chapel Hill Regional, which begins May 11 and concludes May 13 at UNC Finley Golf Course.

Since taking over the program in December 2020, head coach Charlie Ewing has guided the team to postseason play every year. No other coach in school history has led the Bulldogs to more than four NCAA Tournaments. This marks the 14th appearance for Mississippi State, which first qualified in 2002.

The Bulldogs have advanced out of regionals five times in their last six NCAA Tournament appearances. Their only setback was in 2021, when the regional round was canceled due to weather. That year, Mississippi State was seeded 12th and did not advance.

At the upcoming regional, Mississippi State will compete against teams including No. 5 Texas, No. 12 North Carolina, and No. 20 Oklahoma State. The field also features Kent State, Virginia, Michigan State, NC State, High Point, Furman, Richmond, and Howard.

The Bulldogs are led by junior Avery Weed, the NCAA’s fifth-ranked golfer, who has a 70.22 scoring average this season. The team also features senior Izzy Pellot, juniors Samantha Whateley and Moa Stridh, and freshman Ines Belchior. Their goal is to finish in the top five, with the top five teams advancing to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California, starting May 22.
