Millsaps Track and Field Excels on Day One of SAA Championships

ROME, Ga. — Millsaps College’s men’s and women’s track and field teams kicked off the 2026 Southern Athletic Association Outdoor Championships with standout performances Friday at Valhalla Stadium.

Greer Hernandez, a sophomore, won the men’s 10,000 meters in a school-record time of 32 minutes, 7.12 seconds. Hernandez edged Zachary Benner of Oglethorpe by 0.02 seconds in a dramatic finish, earning his first conference title and a spot on the All-SAA First Team. Hernandez’s victory marked the 11th men’s conference championship in program history, with Millsaps now having eight titles since joining the SAA in 2013, according to school officials.

On the women’s side, Fiona Selders qualified for two finals Saturday. She placed fourth in the 100-meter preliminaries with a wind-assisted 12.04 seconds and became the second-fastest in program history in the 200 meters, running 25.09 seconds to finish seventh and advance. Suzanna Busbee and other Millsaps athletes also competed in sprints, with Busbee finishing 15th in the 100 meters and 17th in the 200 meters.

In men’s sprints, freshman Nick Price posted the third-fastest 100-meter time in program history at 11.06 seconds, finishing 11th. He also ran the 200 meters in 22.47 seconds, placing 14th. Aidan Brice clocked personal bests in both events, while Wyatt Wheeler competed in preliminaries for the first time in his career.

In field events, Molly Northam finished ninth in the women’s javelin with a personal-best throw of 28.26 meters. Teammates Amelia Bohl, Reese Brasseaux, and Amari Jackson-Wright also competed in the hammer throw, with Bohl finishing 14th overall.

On the men’s side, Wheeler and W.H. Carver reached the long jump final, placing 13th and 19th, respectively. Carter Davis competed in the men’s javelin final, finishing 17th with a throw of 27.41 meters. Freshman Dallas Stricker posted a personal-best 10:22.63 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing ninth.

The team will return Saturday for the second day of the championships, beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Live results and video are available at gomajors.com, according to school officials.
