Jones College Volleyball Finishes 3-1 at Itawamba Crossover Tournament

Fulton, Miss. — The No. 24 Jones College volleyball team went 3-1 at the Itawamba Crossover Tournament Saturday and Sunday. The Bobcats opened the event with a 3-0 loss to Bevill State Community College, but won three straight matches to close out the weekend.

Jones fell to Bevill State 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20 in the first match Friday. Later that day, the Bobcats responded with a 3-1 victory over Dyersburg State Community College. Jones took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-16, but Dyersburg State forced a fourth set with a 25-23 win. Jones closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.

Saturday, Jones rallied after dropping the first set to Pellissippi State Community College. The Bobcats won the next three sets, including a dominant 25-7 third set. They finished with 25-22 wins in the second and fourth sets to secure a 3-1 victory.

Jones wrapped up the tournament with a 3-1 win against Northwest Shoals Community College. The Bobcats won the first set 25-21, lost the second 25-18, then controlled the final two sets 25-18 and 25-15. The team finished the event with a 3-1 record, totaling 185 kills and hitting .238 over 15 sets.

Leading the team was Selah Sandridge, who had 38 kills, 41 digs, and seven service aces. Izzi Barnes recorded 36 kills with a team-best .448 hitting percentage. Myah Favre added 35 kills, and Amaya Wilson contributed 24 kills and led with eight blocks. Claire Wicker dished out 152 assists, and Olivia Guth led defensively with 52 digs. Sandridge and Wicker were named to the all-tournament team.

Jones now prepares for its next match, traveling to Poplarville on Wednesday, Aug. 26, to face Pearl River. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
