Scores from last Night: Hernando survives Oxford comeback; Walnut reaches 30 wins

Hernando and DeSoto Central survive five-set playoff tests
Hernando won the opening sets 25-21 and 25-16 before Oxford responded 25-21 and 25-23. With the match back level, the visiting Tigers took the deciding set 15-9. The result left Hernando at 24-13 and Oxford at 26-12, a sharp finish to a match in which the home team erased a two-set deficit but could not complete the turnaround.
DeSoto Central also needed a fifth set, beating visiting Madison Central 3-2. The teams traded the first four sets before DeSoto Central closed 15-12 to reach 18-17; Madison Central finished the match at 19-8. Germantown, meanwhile, beat Tupelo 3-1 at home, recovering from a second-set loss to take the final two 25-23 and 25-20. The Mavericks stood at 26-8 afterward, with Tupelo at 25-10.
Walnut reaches 30 wins; Ripley and Pine Grove move on
Walnut swept East Webster 3-0 at home to improve to 30-4. Ripley had a longer route through visiting Itawamba Agricultural: after winning the opening sets 25-11 and 25-19, the Tigers dropped the third 25-23 before finishing with a 25-21 fourth set. Ripley’s 3-1 playoff victory lifted it to 17-15 and left Itawamba Agricultural at 14-9.
Pine Grove completed the winning night for this selection of Tippah County teams, sweeping visiting West Union 3-0 in another playoff match. The Panthers emerged at 23-11, while West Union stood at 10-21. Together with Walnut and Ripley, Pine Grove turned a home postseason opportunity into a victory, although detailed set-point scores were not available for the Panthers’ match.
Kossuth, Lake Cormorant and George County sweep through
Kossuth gave Nettleton little room in a 3-0 home playoff win. The Aggies won 25-9, 25-13 and 25-12. Kossuth’s reported record moved to 28-4; Nettleton’s was 12-17. It was a decisive finish to one of the matches featured in Tuesday’s Games To Watch.
Lake Cormorant made its home playoff date count to keep its postseason going. The Gators swept Ridgeland 25-17, 25-13 and 25-18 to finish the night at 17-20, with the Titans at 14-12. On the Coast, George County beat visiting Gautier 25-16, 25-11 and 25-19. That 3-0 playoff result left the Rebels at 26-11 and the Gators at 17-18.
Lamar beats Jackson Academy; Hartfield takes the fifth
Outside the playoff selection, Lamar delivered a notable home result against Jackson Academy. The Meridian team won 3-1, taking the third and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-23 after splitting the opening two. Lamar finished the non-conference match at 11-9; Jackson Academy, which took the second set 25-21, stood at 44-6.
Hartfield Academy’s home meeting with Madison-Ridgeland Academy went the distance. The Hawks won the first and third sets, MRA answered in the second and fourth, and Hartfield closed the non-conference match with a 15-5 deciding set. The 3-2 result left Hartfield at 25-4 and MRA at 26-10.
