Jones College Volleyball Finishes 3-1 at Itawamba Crossover Tournament
Fulton, Miss. — The No. 24 Jones College volleyball team went 3-1 at the Itawamba Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Bobcats opened with a loss before winning three straight matches to close out the event.
Jones lost its first match 3-0 to Bevill State Community College, falling 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20. Later Friday, the Bobcats rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Dyersburg State Community College. They took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-16 before Dyersburg State won the third 25-23. Jones secured the win with a 25-19 fourth set.
On Saturday, Jones continued its winning streak, rallying from a set down to beat Pellissippi State Community College 3-1. The Bobcats lost the opener 25-13 but responded with three consecutive wins, including a 25-7 third set. They also won the second and fourth sets 25-22 each.
Jones finished the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Northwest Shoals Community College. The Bobcats won the first set 25-21, lost the second 25-18, then closed out the match with 25-18 and 25-15 wins in the final two sets. The team totaled 185 kills, hitting .238 across 15 sets, with 174 assists, 30 service aces, 192 digs and 21 blocks.
Selah Sandridge led the team with 38 kills and also contributed 41 digs and seven aces. Izzi Barnes added 36 kills with a team-best .448 hitting percentage. Myah Favre finished with 35 kills and a .244 hitting percentage, while Addyson Sides recorded 25 kills, 15 digs and three aces. Amaya Wilson added 24 kills and led with eight blocks. Claire Wicker directed the offense with 152 assists, averaging 10.13 per set, and also posted eight aces and 37 digs. Olivia Guth led the defense with 52 digs and four aces.
Jones will host Pearl River on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m., in its next match.
