Northwest Mississippi volleyball aims for success in 2026 season after historic 2025
Senatobia, Miss. — After posting a school-record 30 wins in 2025, the Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team is set to pursue another successful season in 2026. The Rangers finished with a 30-6 record, their first 30-win season and the first for any Mississippi team, according to the school.
Head Coach Allison Burchyett expressed high expectations for the team, aiming for a strong postseason run. The roster features eight freshmen and eight sophomores, blending experience with raw talent. The team’s top offensive players, outside hitter Adalyn Callahan and middle blocker Ariana Woods, return for their sophomore seasons.
Callahan led the team with 336 kills and ranked second with 315 digs. Woods contributed 323 kills and led in blocks, with 13 solo and 67 assisted. Both players received All-MACCC honors, with Woods on the first team and Callahan on the second team. Defensive specialist Jania Rose also returns after leading the team with 385 digs, 67 aces, and a 0.973 serve receive percentage.
The team plans to run a two-setter system again, with seniors Dallas White and Chloe Rodriguez returning. Both already rank among the school’s career and single-season leaders in assists, with 593 and 475 assists, respectively.
Burchyett highlighted the impact of returning sophomores, citing their leadership and mental toughness. The team also welcomes talented freshmen, including Sofia Gonzalez, a four-time state champion and three-time Miss Volleyball, and Valarie Hurdle, a state champion as well. The coach expressed excitement about their potential to contribute immediately.
Northwest opened the season 4-0 at the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Battle, winning all matches without dropping a set, including a victory over No. 22 Pellissippi State Community College. The team’s schedule includes tournaments, conference matches, and non-conference games, with key contests against Pearl River and East Central in late September. The Rangers will also participate in the Wallace State Tournament in Alabama and face several regional opponents throughout the season.
The team’s season concludes in October, with the regular-season finale against Coahoma Community College. Burchyett praised her team’s personality and talent, noting their enthusiasm and dedication.
