Millsaps Men’s Soccer Opens Season with 0-0 Draw Against Pensacola Christian

The Millsaps College men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Pensacola Christian College in their season opener Friday night at Eagle Field.

Freshmen Reid Brenner, Zachary Diamond, and Justin Long, along with graduate student Jannik Stockfisch, all made their first starts for the Majors. The team was led defensively by sophomore Edward Steinwand, who made six saves in his debut as the starting goalkeeper.

Pensacola Christian, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, finished with 14 shots, including six on goal. Millsaps recorded 11 shots, three on target, and limited the Eagles to just four shots after halftime, disrupting their rhythm.

The match was physical, with Millsaps senior Braden Walters, freshman Dakota Vann, and Harrison Williams all receiving yellow cards. The teams exchanged early pressure, with Millsaps earning multiple corner kicks and creating several scoring opportunities in the first half.

In the second half, Millsaps maintained their defensive stance while continuing to press forward. Steinwand made his final save at 68:35, and the Majors responded with several shots, including attempts from Christian Lopez, Blandon, and Brenner. The Eagles mounted a late push with a corner and two shots after the 83rd minute, but Millsaps held firm to preserve the scoreless draw.
