Millsaps Men’s Soccer Splits Arkansas Weekend Matches

The Millsaps College men’s soccer team traveled to Arkansas over the weekend, earning a 2-0 victory against Hendrix College on Friday before falling 2-1 to Lyon College on Sunday.

In Friday’s game at Warrior Soccer Field, Millsaps scored early and held off Hendrix to secure the win. Junior Ellis Dykes put the Majors ahead in the 18th minute, then senior Braden Walters added a goal in the 57th minute. Freshman Reid Brenner led all players with three shots, while sophomore Edward Steinwand made five saves to preserve the shutout, according to team sources.

The Majors outshot Hendrix 13-6 and put 10 attempts on goal. Millsaps maintained pressure in the first half with several corner kicks and quality shots by players including Zachary Diamond and Raul Blandon. Millsaps held a 1-0 lead at halftime and increased their advantage in the 57th minute. They finished the match with a 2-0 victory, with Abram Lawless adding a late shot and corner before the final whistle.

On Sunday, Millsaps faced Lyon College and suffered a 2-1 setback. Lyon scored early in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Diamond equalized for the Majors in the 15th minute, marking his first collegiate goal. Lyon restored their lead in the 85th minute, clinching the win despite efforts by Millsaps to find an equalizer, including shots and multiple corner kicks in the final minutes.
