Lady Crusaders Win Sixth SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Title

The Lady Crusaders won their sixth Southern States Athletic Conference outdoor track and field title, finishing with 188 points. They finished four points ahead of runner-up Life University, according to event organizers.

On the track, Tyeese Smith highlighted the meet with victories in the 100 meters (11.39 seconds) and 200 meters (24.06 seconds). Jennifer Ezeoha added a gold medal in the 400 meters with a time of 57.16 seconds, while Maria Schroeder and C’Shanti Pierce finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Maria Tirado earned a silver in the 800 meters in 2:19, and Kristina Stojanovic secured bronze in the same event. Stojanovic also claimed silver in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:47. She later won the 10,000 meters in 39:40. Virginia Tirado finished fifth in the 5,000 meters and fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which Maria Tirado won in 11:47.

Stojanovic closed her individual events with a victory in the 10,000 meters. Virginia Tirado and Sydney Moudy finished fourth and sixth in that race. In relay events, the team of Robertson, Latimer, Mitchell and Tirado earned silver in the 4×800-meter relay in 9:58. Schroeder, Smith, Wilson and Ezeoha took gold in the 4×100-meter relay, while Schroeder, Stojanovic, Price and Ezeoha finished second in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:59.

In field events, Kerrishma Williams won bronze in the high jump with a clearance of 1.57 meters. Zaniyah Wilson finished fourth. Williams also won gold in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters, earning silver for Smith. Natalee Dillion finished fifth in the long jump with 5.36 meters, and Wilson placed sixth.

In the triple jump, Williams and Wilson finished second and third with marks of 11.25 and 11.06 meters, respectively. Ciearra Gibson placed seventh in the shot put. The Lady Crusaders will compete next at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, scheduled for May 20-22 in Asheville, North Carolina.
