Jones College opens soccer season with two shutouts
ELLISVILLE, Miss. — No. 7 Jones College opened its men’s soccer season with two clean sheets over the weekend, beating Southern Union State 3-0 and No. 13 St. Louis 6-0.
The Bobcats, now 2-0, will host National Park College on Aug. 28 and Georgia Military on Aug. 30. In Saturday’s game against Southern Union State, Kinson Smith scored the lone goal in the 53rd minute, blasting a left-foot shot through after a deadlock. Mario Novaku and Dawson Dykes added goals in the 64th and 79th minutes. Jones outshot SUS 13-4, including 11-2 on goal, with Logan Correro playing all 90 minutes and making two saves.
On Sunday, in a rematch of the 2025 NJCAA Tournament opener against 13th-ranked Salt Lake Community College, Jones built a 3-0 halftime lead and maintained control. Smith scored twice, and Lyle Hardisty, Rob Bradley, Calvin Harrison and Jackson Warren each added goals. The Bobcats outshot SLCC 17-4. Correro played the first 63 minutes and made two saves before Aiden Reiter finished the match without being tested.
