Jones College Men’s Soccer Opens Conference Play with 3-0 Win
The Jones College men’s soccer team extended its undefeated streak Monday night with a 3-0 victory over East Mississippi at home. The Bobcats scored all three goals in the first half and dominated the match, improving to 7-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Jones outshot East Mississippi 26-3, with 20 shots on goal, and held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Bobcats scored early, with Louie Fitzpatrick setting up Harry Guess for a goal less than four minutes into the game.
Fitzpatrick then assisted Calvin Harrison, who scored his fourth goal of the season in the 26th minute. Just under two minutes later, Mario Novaku scored his second goal of the season, giving Jones a 3-0 lead at halftime. The team finished the first half with a 13-1 shot advantage and all six corner kicks.
In the second half, Jones continued to pressure East Mississippi, which managed only two shots that goalkeeper Logan Correro saved. Fitzpatrick, Novaku, Kinson Smith, and Guess all created scoring opportunities in the second half, with the team matching its first-half shot total of 13.
The Bobcats will return to action Friday, Sept. 18, against Co-Lin in Wesson, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m., according to team officials.
