ELLISVILLE, Miss. — The No. 5 Jones College men’s soccer team defeated Southwest 5-1 at home Tuesday, thanks to a four-goal second-half rally, according to the school.
The Bobcats took an early lead, with Essa Jadama scoring in the third minute off a corner kick. Jones maintained the advantage at halftime, despite several close calls, including a post shot by Calvin Harrison in the 18th minute.
Immediately after the break, Jones extended its lead. Louie Fitzpatrick scored in the 53rd minute, then an own goal by Southwest made it 3-0. Stanley Georgiou converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute to make it 4-0.
Southwest scored its only goal with about 15 minutes remaining, but Jones responded quickly. Sam Rogers scored off a rebound in the 76th minute, sealing the victory. Lyle Hardisty nearly added another late but hit the post, and the final score stood at 5-1.
The Bobcats, now 10-0-1 overall and 4-0 in conference, will return to action Friday against Holmes at 3 p.m., according to team officials.
