Jones College Women’s Soccer Keeps Unbeaten Streak with 4-0 Win Over Southwest Mississippi

ELLISVILLE, Miss. — The No. 2 Jones College women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 4-0 win over Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday.

The Bobcats took control early, scoring three goals in the first half and adding a final goal early in the second. Jones created numerous chances throughout the match, maintaining pressure that kept Southwest on the defensive.

Jones opened the scoring in the third minute when Maryanne Ward converted a rebound after her initial shot was saved by the Southwest goalkeeper. Ward nearly scored again moments later, forcing a save in the seventh minute and sending another attempt over the crossbar in the 10th.

Southwest threatened briefly on counters, but both attempts missed the target. The Bobcats continued to attack, with Dillyn Biancamano scoring in the 35th minute after collecting a clearance and firing past the keeper. Karla Ovalle added the third goal in the 36th minute with a curling shot from outside the box, giving Jones a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Jones maintained its offensive pressure. Ward scored her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute, assisted by Ovalle, to push the lead to 4-0. The Bobcats nearly added a fifth in the 60th minute when Jameyah Hubbard hit the crossbar, but the score remained unchanged through the final whistle.

Jones (8-0-1, 4-0) is scheduled to face No. 4 Holmes on Friday, October 2, at 2 p.m., continuing its pursuit of an undefeated season.
