Belhaven Volleyball Loses Season Opener to Millsaps in Three Sets
Jackson, Miss. — The Belhaven volleyball team opened its 2026 season with a 3-0 loss to Millsaps College on Tuesday night at Rugg Arena. The Majors won the match with set scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-20, according to game reports.
Belhaven’s Megan LaCour led the team with 11 kills, two aces and five digs. Tarryn Woodall added 10 kills and nine digs, while Maggie Joy Tomlin posted a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs. Kayla Robinson led all players with 23 digs and contributed three assists. Angel Edwards recorded two of the Blazers’ five service aces.
The opening set was highly competitive, featuring 16 ties and six lead changes. Belhaven erased a 13-11 deficit with three straight points, including a kill from LaCour and an ace from Edwards. Millsaps regained the lead, but the Blazers tied it at 17-17. They fought off two set points before Millsaps secured the set 25-23 on a kill from Madelynn Sasser.
Belhaven gained early momentum in the second set, taking a 5-4 lead. Millsaps responded with six unanswered points to lead 10-5. The Blazers trimmed the deficit to 12-10 with a 3-0 run but could not sustain the rally as Millsaps extended its lead with a five-point stretch. Sasser led Millsaps with 13 kills, and Amelia Bohl hit .500 with eight kills.
The third set saw Belhaven jump out to a 6-2 lead with kills from Goldie Lowe and LaCour, a Woodall ace and a block from LaCour and Cami Davis. Millsaps answered with seven straight points, then held a 20-16 lead. Belhaven fought back to close the gap late, but the Majors ultimately finished the match with the victory.
