Belhaven Volleyball Completes Texas Weekend with Win and Loss
IRVING, Texas — The Belhaven University volleyball team finished its weekend at the Crusader Classic with one win and one loss Saturday. The Blazers lost to Paul Quinn College in three sets before defeating the University of Dallas in four.
Belhaven pushed Paul Quinn in the opening set, which featured five ties and multiple lead changes. The Blazers had 18 kills and tied the score at 24-24 before Paul Quinn scored the final two points to win 26-24. The Tigers then secured a 25-14 victory in the second set and completed the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third.
Megan LaCour led Belhaven with 10 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. Cami Davis added seven kills on 15 swings with a .333 hitting percentage. Laila Gauthier contributed six kills, and Maggie Joy Tomlin dished out 27 assists and had 13 digs. Kayla Robinson led the back row with 16 digs and served two aces, while Tarryn Woodall added 13 digs, according to match statistics.
In the nightcap, Belhaven responded with its best serving performance of the weekend but fell to Dallas in four sets. The Blazers won the second set 25-14 after falling behind early in the first and third sets. Dallas took the first and third sets, 25-16 and 25-17, respectively, and closed out the match by winning the fourth 25-22.
LaCour posted her second double-double of the day with 14 kills and 11 digs, hitting .250. Woodall added 13 kills, and Tomlin finished with 24 assists and seven aces. Angel Edwards served four aces, and Robinson led the defense with a match-high 23 digs. Belhaven served 11 aces compared to Dallas’s seven. The Crusaders outkilled the Blazers 46-34 and hit .180 to Belhaven’s .050.
Belhaven returns to Rugg Arena on Friday, Sept. 11, to face LeTourneau at 3 p.m. and Centenary at 7 p.m. The team will also host Principia at noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, according to the school.
