Belhaven Volleyball Completes Sweep of Agnes Scott with Strong Second Set

JACKSON, Miss. — Belhaven University’s volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory over Agnes Scott College at Rugg Arena on Friday night. The Blazers won the sets 25-9, 27-25, and 25-14, improving their record to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in the Collegiate Conference of the South.

Belhaven’s offense was efficient, hitting a season-best .424 and recording 14 service aces. Maggie Joy Tomlin led the team with 31 assists and matched her season high with nine aces. Tarryn Woodall and Megan LaCour each posted 11 kills, while Laila Gauthier added seven kills without an attack error.

The first set saw Belhaven jump out early with back-to-back aces from Tomlin and a quick kill from Woodall. The team built a 6-2 lead and extended it with a seven-point run from the service line by Goldie Lowe. Belhaven closed the set with two more aces from Tomlin to win 25-9, holding Agnes Scott to a negative hitting percentage.

The second set was highly competitive, featuring 18 ties and five lead changes. Agnes Scott held a 24-22 advantage late, but Woodall responded with a kill, and LaCour and Gauthier combined for a block to tie it. Woodall then served an ace to put Belhaven ahead 25-24. After the Scotties leveled the score again, Gauthier delivered two consecutive kills to give the Blazers the 27-25 victory and momentum heading into the final set.

In the third set, Tomlin started with four aces, helping Belhaven jump to a 5-0 lead. Agnes Scott narrowed the gap to 9-7, but the Blazers responded with a six-point run that pushed their advantage to 20-10. LaCour contributed two kills, and Woodall added two aces during this surge. Belhaven did not commit an attack error in the final set, hitting .650 and closing with a 25-14 win. Woodall finished with 11 kills on 14 swings, hitting .714, while Gauthier posted a .636 attack percentage.

Kayla Robinson led the team defensively with eight digs. Belhaven outperformed Agnes Scott in kills 43-23 and in assists 40-19. Madison Stidum led the Scotties with eight kills.
