Blue Mountain Christian tops William Carey in four sets

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — William Carey University’s volleyball team fell to Blue Mountain Christian in four sets during a Southern States Athletic Conference match Friday night.

The Lady Crusaders took an early lead in the first set after a five-point run gave them an 11-6 advantage. Carey extended the margin to 16-10 before Blue Mountain Christian rallied to tie the score at 19-19. The Toppers finished the set on a 6-0 run to win 25-19.

William Carey responded in the second set, using a strong offensive push to build a 23-18 lead. The Lady Crusaders maintained control and secured a 25-19 victory to level the match at one set each.

Blue Mountain Christian regained momentum in the third set, taking an early 7-3 lead and extending it to 17-11. The Toppers dominated the set, winning 25-15 to go up 2-1 in the match.

The fourth set was closely contested, with William Carey staying within striking distance. Trailing 20-19, the Lady Crusaders looked to force a fifth set but were outscored 5-1 down the stretch, losing 25-19 and the match.

The Lady Crusaders are scheduled to return to action Saturday, traveling to Pulaski, Tennessee, to face UT Southern in SSAC play. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
