Texas Southern defeats Alcorn State in three sets
Houston — The Alcorn State Lady Braves lost to Texas Southern in three sets Tuesday night. The match ended with scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-17, in favor of the Lady Tigers.
Rylan Jones led the Lady Braves with seven kills on 21 attempts. She also recorded a dig and a solo block defensively. In the first set, Texas Southern took an early lead and won 25-18. The Lady Braves stayed close early, tying the score at 8-8 before the Lady Tigers pulled away. Courtney Carter contributed two service aces in the set.
In the second set, Texas Southern started strong with an 11-4 advantage. A rally brought the Lady Braves within three points, but the Lady Tigers regained momentum and extended their lead, ultimately winning the set.
The third set was competitive early, with the Lady Braves tying at 4-4, 6-6, and 10-10. Texas Southern pulled ahead midway through, leading 17-12. Jones scored a point to cut the deficit, but the Lady Tigers maintained control and closed the set at 25-16 to clinch the match.
The Lady Braves will face Prairie View A&M on Sunday at noon in their next match.
