Alcorn State volleyball opens three-match homestand

Alcorn State is scheduled to begin a three-match volleyball homestand Wednesday against Southern, with matches against Prairie View A&M on Friday and Texas Southern on Sunday. The Sunday match is set for noon and includes Senior Day, closing the Lady Braves’ 2026 home schedule.

All three matches are scheduled for the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The match against Southern is listed for 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the Prairie View A&M match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday. The teams are not ranked in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Poll Top 25.

Alcorn beat Southern 3-1 in the teams’ last meeting, ending an 11-match road losing streak and a six-match skid against the Jaguars. After losing the first set 25-11, the Lady Braves won the next three, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-14.

Rylan Jones led Alcorn with 14 kills and hit .444, a season best, in that match. Daylin Saiki had 33 assists, her third match this season with at least 30, and passed 300 assists for the year. Courtney Carter and Tomoni Giddings combined for 30 digs.

The Lady Braves lost their most recent match against Prairie View A&M in straight sets, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-16. Carter led Alcorn with 10 kills and five digs. Prairie View pulled away with a 10-3 run in the second set and a 7-2 run in the third.

Alcorn also fell to Texas Southern 3-0 in its last meeting, with set scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-17. Jones had seven kills on 21 attempts, plus a dig and a solo block. The Lady Tigers took an 11-4 lead in the second set; Alcorn tied the third set three times before Texas Southern built a 17-12 advantage.

For the season, Jones leads Alcorn with 198 kills and 3.00 kills per set. Carter has 152 kills, while Jaylynn McNeill has 78. The source lists Alcorn’s 2026 record as 3-16, including a 3-6 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, and says interim coach Gabrielle Harris is in her second year in the role.

After the homestand, Alcorn is scheduled to visit Grambling State on Nov. 6 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 8.
