Maggie Joy Tomlin was named CCS Setter of the Week for the third time this season, while Kayla Robinson earned her second CCS Defensive Player of the Week award. Freshman Laila Gauthier was named CCS Rookie of the Week, according to a news release from Belhaven University.
Belhaven posted wins over Berea and Asbury last week, including its first-ever victory in the series against Asbury with a reverse sweep. Tomlin continued to lead the Blazers’ offense, recording 129 assists over 17 sets. The sophomore had at least 40 assists in two matches, including 49 against Huntingdon and 40 at Berea.
She also contributed from the service line, with 15 aces during the week. Tomlin’s season-high of nine aces came against Berea, including six in the fourth set, helping secure a 25-10 victory. In the win at Asbury, she posted a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs, adding two aces. She also had a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs against Spalding.
Through 14 matches, Tomlin has totaled 410 assists and averages 7.88 per set. She leads Belhaven with 33 aces and has contributed 105 digs, 29 kills and seven blocks. This marks her third CCS Setter of the Week award in four weeks.
Robinson anchored the defense with 97 digs over four matches, averaging 5.71 per set. She recorded 20 or more digs in three matches, including a season-high 28 against Asbury. The senior also had 17 assists during the week. Robinson has accumulated 278 digs this season, along with 51 assists and 14 aces.
Gauthier provided offensive support with 42 kills on a .231 hitting percentage, averaging 2.47 kills per set. She reached double figures in kills three times, including 13 against Huntingdon and 11 at Berea. She closed the week with eight kills on a .278 percentage against Spalding, leading the team in that match. Gauthier now has 91 kills this season, ranking third on the team, and has added 17 blocks in her first collegiate campaign.
