Alcorn Softball Set to Face Memphis in Midweek Nonconference Matchup
Alcorn State softball will face Memphis on Tuesday in a nonconference game at Tigers Softball Complex in Memphis. The matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available, according to school officials.
The game marks the first meeting between the teams since 2022. Memphis holds a 23-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last 17 consecutive games, dating back to 2012. Most contests have taken place in Memphis, with only two games played in Lorman, Mississippi.
The Braves enter the game after losing 10-1 to Texas Southern on Saturday. Jade McQueen led the Tigers with a three-hit performance, including a home run and two RBIs. Alcorn struggled offensively, managing only three hits in the game.
Alcorn’s coach Billie said the team views the game as a valuable challenge. “Any time you step into a nonconference game like this against a quality opponent like Memphis, you want to come in prepared and play Alcorn Softball,” she said. “Games like this help you grow. Playing on the road against a tough opponent tells you a lot about your team’s character.”
Memphis is 14-30 overall and 3-15 in American Athletic Conference play. The Tigers are led by head coach Trena Prater, in her second season. They rank near the bottom of the conference in batting and pitching but remain a formidable opponent for the Braves.
Alcorn looks to rebound as they prepare for a three-game series against Prairie View A&M on April 17-18 in Texas, a key series in the SWAC Western Division standings.
