Alcorn Softball Visits Southeastern Louisiana for Final Nonconference Game
HAMMOND, La. — Alcorn State’s softball team travels to Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday for its final midweek nonconference game of the 2026 season. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. at North Oak Park and will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available, according to the schools.
Alcorn’s head coach Brianna Billie will not be on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, as she is close to giving birth to her first child, the team said. The Braves are led offensively by Yahnya Acevedo, who has a batting average of .352, and Rajayla McBride, at .345. The team has stolen 51 bases out of 56 attempts this season, the program noted.
Alcorn still needs to complete two suspended Southwestern Athletic Conference games against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Grambling State, as well as a third game from last month’s series in Arkansas. Mariah Morgan has driven in 21 RBIs and hit three home runs, tied for the team lead with five other players, including Acevedo, Paris Thompson, Olivia Miller, and pitcher Alainah Felton.
The team is fighting for a spot in the SWAC Tournament in Gulfport, Mississippi. To qualify, Alcorn must win its games in hand and potentially sweep UAPB this weekend in Lorman, Miss., the school said. Chiara Olison and Felton have each earned two wins in league play, the team added.
Southeastern Louisiana leads the all-time series 34-1, with the Lions winning the last 19 meetings dating back to 2015, according to the schools. The only win for Alcorn was a 3-1 victory in Lorman on April 2, 2014. Last year, SLU swept doubleheaders in Hammond with 8-0 scores in both games, limiting the Braves to six hits across both contests.
SLU is ranked as a receiving vote in NFCA/GoRout Coaches polls and is also receiving votes on ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings. The Lions are 41-11 overall and 22-2 in Southland Conference play, having clinched the regular-season title, the schools reported. Led by head coach Trena Prater, SLU boasts a .340 team batting average and a 1.63 ERA, with standout pitchers Cera Blanchard and Hallie Burns ranking nationally in ERA.
Alcorn’s last game ended in a 7-0 loss at Prairie View A&M on Saturday. The Panthers scored in each of the first five innings and limited the Braves to five hits. Prairie View’s Kayla Zaid led the offense with two RBIs, while Alcorn’s Yahnya Acevedo went 2-for-2.
The Braves will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff this weekend for Senior Appreciation Weekend, with a potential four-game series that includes completing a previously halted game and three additional contests beginning Friday, April 24, at 4 p.m., the schools said.
