Alcorn State Baseball Visits Southeastern Louisiana in Midweek Game

HAMMOND, La. — Alcorn State baseball will play a midweek game against Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The game is set to start at 6 p.m., with live streaming, radio, and stats available, according to the schools.

The Braves are not ranked in the top five polls this week. Southeastern Louisiana also does not appear in the rankings. Alcorn has scored at least four runs in each of its last seven games. Jaylyn Bennett leads the team with a .361 batting average and is tied for second with two home runs, behind Cooper Harris, who has three.

Alcorn’s team slugging percentage is .328. The team has stolen 74 bases out of 95 attempts, led by Kanious Davis with 18 steals. SLU is coming off a series loss to UTRGV and has a season batting average of .279. Peyton Woods (.324) and Justin Williams (.315) lead the Lions at the plate. Alex Perry has 11 home runs, and Brody Capps has 10. The team’s slugging percentage is .484. On the mound, Lakin Polk and Nik Toups have combined for a 4-6 record with ERAs of 6.00 and 4.83, respectively. Dane Watts is on a 10-game hitting streak.

Alcorn’s last game was a 14-5 loss to Southern University, where Asher Friedman collected three hits. Southern scored five runs in the fifth inning and six in the ninth to complete the series sweep. The Jaguars’ Omari Johnson and Kameron Byrd led the offense, with Johnson finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Braves’ Kayden Sutton took the loss, falling to 1-7.
