The Ole Miss men’s golf team, ranked 19th nationally, wrapped up the opening round of the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio, tied for 12th place. The Rebels posted a team score of 15-over par 299 on the Donald Ross-designed course, which was noted for its difficulty, according to team sources.
Iowa led the field with a score of 283, finishing 1 under par. The lowest individual score of the day was a 3-under 68. Ole Miss’s Cooper Claycomb made his collegiate debut and scored even par. He started his round with a birdie on the second hole and added another on the 14th, finishing tied for eighth place, just three shots off the lead.
Freshman Tomas Restrepo also debuted, ending the day tied for 37th after a 4-over 75. Eduardo Matarazzo finished 51st with a 5-over 76. Collins Trolio recorded a birdie on the fifth hole and finished 6-over, while Finn Meister shot 7-over with a birdie on the back nine. The Rebels are scheduled to return to the course Tuesday for the second round, which will be streamed live on ESPN+ from 12 to 4 p.m. Central Time.
