ESPN announced Wednesday that Mississippi State women’s basketball will travel to take on Georgia Tech inside McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday, Dec. 4 for the 2024 SEC/ACC Women’s Challenge.
Network designation and tip off time information will be released at a later date.
It will be the second edition of the Challenge after it was introduced in November 2023. The name will rotate on an annual basis and the expectation will be for each program to have two home and two away games over a four-year period.
The two programs will tip off for the sixth series meeting overall and the second under head coach Sam Purcell. Mississippi State most recently defeated Georgia Tech, 84-47, in the first round of the 2024 WBIT inside Humphrey Coliseum on March 21.
Mississippi State leads the all-time series 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Atlanta. It will be the first time that Mississippi State has faced Georgia Tech in Atlanta since a 62-56 win on Dec. 30, 2006 in the Georgia Tech Holiday Tournament and the first time that the two programs will tip off in McCamish Pavilion.
Mississippi State owns a 4-3 record in inter-conference challenge games dating back to 2015-16. The Bulldogs are 2-2 against the ACC under Purcell.
Mississippi State enters its third season under Purcell after the program has recorded consecutive 20-plus win seasons and postseason appearances. The Bulldogs’ roster feature four returners, including 2023-24 All-SEC Second Team selection Jerkaila Jordan, and welcomes in the addition of 10 newcomers.
