Men’s Soccer Loses to USSU 5-1 in Home Game

The William Carey men’s soccer team fell to the United States Sports University 5-1 in a non-conference home game at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls are now 0-6-0 this season, while the Eagles improved to 1-1-1, according to school officials.

William Carey found itself down 2-0 at halftime and trailed 4-0 before scoring in the 59th minute on a penalty kick by newcomer Simon Roth, his first goal at the school, officials said. The Owls had five total shots, three on goal, but the Eagles dominated possession with 28 shot attempts and 13 on target.

William Carey goalkeeper Will Rickman made eight saves during the match, which was the first meeting between the two programs. The Owls will open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday at home against Spalding University, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m., officials said.
