Mississippi State Volleyball Heads to Lafayette for Ragin’ Cajuns Classic

Mississippi State volleyball is hitting the road for the Ragin’ Cajuns Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Bulldogs will face Louisiana at 6 p.m. Thursday on ESPN+.

Following the opener, they will play Jackson State at 2:30 p.m. Friday and UT Arlington at 11 a.m. Saturday, all at Earl K. Long Gym in Lafayette.

Mississippi State enters the tournament with a 7-1 record. They recently extended their winning streak to five matches after victories over Alcorn State and Memphis at the Carrie Yerty Classic.

Senior Lindsey Mangelson is close to a career milestone, with 498 kills. She aims to become the fastest Bulldog to reach 500 kills in the 25-point rally scoring era, surpassing Evie Grace Singleton’s 39-match record set in 2016. The Bulldogs also lead the SEC in digs per set with 15.00, with McKenna Yates ranking fifth in the conference at 4.39 digs per set.

Louisiana, the tournament host, is 4-6 after their last win against Southeastern Louisiana. Lolo Lambert leads the team with 117 kills. Jackson State, with a 4-6 record, went 1-2 last weekend at the Southern Miss Invitational. Giannelle Asomani has 117 digs and 10 aces for the Tigers. UT Arlington is 4-5 and seeking a fifth win. Lucy Tricco leads the Mavericks with 206 assists and a .422 hitting percentage.

Mississippi State holds a 20-0 overall record against Jackson State and aims to extend their 18-match winning streak against the Tigers. They will also face Louisiana for the 21st time, seeking to continue their winning streak, and will play UT Arlington for the first time since 2013, aiming for their third consecutive win against the Mavericks.
