Mississippi State Men’s Golf Opens Strong at Canadian Invitational

FOOT’S BAY, Ontario — Mississippi State men’s golf opened the Canadian Collegiate Invitational with a strong first round, finishing in second place among 13 teams. The Bulldogs posted a team score of 282, two strokes behind New Mexico, which leads with an 8-under-par 276, according to tournament results.

Mississippi State is one of three teams to finish the day at par or better, totaling 18 birdies. Sophomore Bryson Hughes fired a career-best 3-under 68, tying for second individually and leading the field with seven birdies. Hughes is also tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring at 3-under.

Arth Sinha is tied for eighth after shooting a 1-under 70 with five birdies. Freshman Finn Burkholder made his Bulldog debut with an even-par 71 and sits in the top 15 heading into the second round. Other Bulldogs contributed to the solid team effort, which included five players in the top 25 of the 73-player field.

The tournament continues Monday. Mississippi State’s next round will determine if the team can climb higher in the standings as the event progresses.
