Foot’s Bay, Ontario — Mississippi State men’s golf finished fourth at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, overcoming difficult weather in the final round. The team was the only program to have more than three players in the top 20, according to tournament results.
Head coach Dusty Smith praised the team’s resilience. “I thought we had a lot of really good moments this week but at the same time made some costly mental errors that ultimately cost us,” he said. “Today was a very tough day with really difficult conditions. I’m proud of how we hung in there despite a very rough start. We have a lot to clean up before our next event, but I love what I’m seeing from this group.”
This marked the first time since the 2024 Blessings Collegiate Invitational that the Bulldogs had at least four players finish in the top 20. Arth Sinha led the team, finishing 12th — his best result as a Bulldog and his second top-15 finish overall. Freshman Finn Burkholder debuted with a top-15 finish, tying for 13th and recording two rounds of par or better, including a 3-under 68 in round two.
Bryson Hughes tied for 17th, his second top-20 finish of the season, after shooting a career-best 68 in the first round. Gavin Isbell tied for 18th, posting his best finish at State with a score of 220 (+7), highlighted by four birdies and two eagles, tying him for the most eagles in the field. The Bulldogs will next compete October 5-6 at the Cullen Brown Collegiate in Lexington, Kentucky.
In the final team standings, New Mexico took first place with a total score of 847, followed by Notre Dame and Santa Clara. Mississippi State’s team score was 871 (+19).
Individual results for State included Arth Sinha in 12th, Finn Burkholder in 13th, Bryson Hughes in 17th, and Gavin Isbell in 18th. The Bulldogs’ next event is the Cullan Brown Collegiate in Kentucky.
