The Co-Lin Baseball team returned to action with a road game against Jones on Tuesday, Feb. 14. The Bobcats beat the Wolves by a final of 11-1.
Costly errors were the big storyline throughout the game for the Wolves as they had two of their five in the first inning of the game leading to the Bobcats having a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
Neither team scored in the second inning and then the Wolves cut the lead down to one run in the top of the third with what ultimately would be their only run of the game. Braydon Evans (Florence) drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a single by Sam Thomas (Ridgeland), and then scored on an RBI single by Tyler Wolfe (Covington, La.) to make the score 2-1. The Bobcats then forced two straight outs by the Wolves to end the scoring threat and maintain their lead.
The Wolves then had two more errors in the bottom half of the third allowing the Bobcats to extend their lead to 5-1. The Wolves once again looked to cut into the Bobcats lead in the top of the fifth with two runners on and one out, but a double play brought a quick end to the scoring threat for the Wolves and kept the Bobcats lead at 5-1.
The Wolves kept the Bobcats scoreless from the fourth through sixth innings, but the Bobcats doubled their run total in the seventh with five runs to increase the lead to 10-1, and then scored the final run in the eighth inning to secure the 11-1 win.
The Wolves had five hits as a team as Sam Thomas went 2-for-3 at the plate while Tyler Wolfe, Harrison Mohead (Madison) and Hayden Babineaux (Church Point, La.) had one hit each. Wolfe also had one RBI for the Wolves.
Conner Wilson (Osyka) got the start for the Wolves and moved to 1-1 on the season with the loss. Wilson pitched six innings allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Coby Gollot (Ocean Springs) pitched 0.2 innings of relief allowing five runs, all earned, on five hits while Jayden Duncan (Foxworth) pitched one inning of relief allowing one unearned run on one hit with one walk, and one strikeout.
Co-Lin is now 2-5 overall and returns to action with a doubleheader against Kaskaskia on Saturday, Feb. 18. First pitch between the Blue Devils and the Wolves is set for Noon at Sullivan Field in Wesson.
