Senatobia, Miss. — The second-ranked Jones College women’s soccer team handed the top-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers their first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night. The game was played at Northwest’s home field, ending the Rangers’ 17-game winning streak and their unbeaten streak at home this year.
Jones took an early lead in the 21st minute when Brianna Kimbrell scored off a deflected cross, leaving her with an open shot. Northwest responded four minutes later with a goal from Yazzlin Alex, assisted by Rylee Ringold, to tie the game at 1-1 at halftime. Alex’s goal was her sixth of the season and her fourth in the past two weeks.
In the second half, Jones regained the lead in the 58th minute when Dillyn Biancamano finished a cross from a Jones teammate. The Bobcats extended their lead in the 80th minute when Maryanne Ward scored on a pass from Biancamano, making it 3-1. Despite pressure from Northwest, the Rangers’ five second-half shots all missed the target.
Jones outshot Northwest 7-10 overall, with three shots on goal to Jones’s five. The Bobcats also had an edge in corner kicks, with six compared to Northwest’s two. Northwest will look to rebound Friday when they host Holmes Community College at 5 p.m., with coverage beginning at 4:55 on Ranger TV.
