NWCC Women’s Soccer routs Copiah-Lincoln 8-0 in conference opener

The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s soccer team opened conference play with an 8-0 victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Tuesday night at the Ranger Soccer Complex.

The win improves NWCC’s record to 6-0, marking their fourth game with five or more goals this season, according to team statistics.

Head coach James Beattie said the team started strong to open conference play. “We obviously want to open up the conference on a positive note,” he said. “We started fast which we asked the girls to do.”

Rylee Ringold scored the team’s first goal in the second minute off a cross from Yazzlyn Alex. The Rangers dominated possession early, adding three more goals before halftime. Olivia Miller scored in the ninth minute after Kassidy McMillan’s cross, and Hayden Moneymaker extended the lead with a goal from 18 yards out. Moneymaker added her second goal just before halftime, unassisted from outside the box.

The offensive surge continued in the second half, with Alex netting two goals within 10 minutes. Her first came from six yards out in the 50th minute, and her second from around six yards in the 56th minute. She completed her first career hat trick with a header off a cross from McKenzi Rankins in the 76th minute. Mary Logan Clark finished the scoring in the 80th minute, converting a cross from Maggie Pace.

Defensively, NWCC posted its fourth straight clean sheet and fifth in six games. The team limited the Wolves to only two shots on goal during the match.

Looking ahead, the Rangers will travel to Summit on Friday to face Southwest Mississippi Community College at 5 p.m. The team aims to maintain their momentum as they approach the season’s most challenging stretch, according to Beattie.
