No. 2 Jones College upsets No. 1 Northwest Mississippi, 3-1

Senatobia, Miss. — Jones College handed No. 1 Northwest Mississippi its first home loss in three years Tuesday night, winning 3-1 at the Ranger Soccer Complex. The victory improves the Bobcats’ record to 7-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.

Dillyn Biancamano scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on another as Jones scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie. Northwest, which entered the match with a 7-1 record, suffered its first loss of the season. It was also the Rangers’ first home defeat since Oct. 20, 2023, when Jones beat them 3-0.

Jones took an early lead in the 21st minute when Brianna Kimbrell finished from six yards after a cross from Karla Ovalle deflected into her path. Northwest responded less than four minutes later, with Yazzlyn Alex finishing a cross from Rylee Ringold to tie the game at 1-1.

The match remained tied through halftime until Jones regained the lead in the 59th minute. Jameyah Hubbard crossed to Biancamano, who scored her first goal of the night for a 2-1 advantage. The Bobcats added an insurance goal with 10:49 remaining when Maryanne Ward finished from Biancamano’s assist, making it 3-1.

Northwest attempted 10 shots in the game but only one was on target, which was Alex’s first-half goal. The Rangers had five shots in each half and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Jones did not allow another shot on goal after the 25th minute. Northwest goalkeeper Lydia Knabb made three saves in the loss.
