The William Carey University women’s cross country team won the team championship at the Firehawk Invitational on Friday in Oakville, Alabama. The Lady Crusaders scored 29 points to secure first place, while the men’s team finished second overall with 57 points, according to school sources.
Kristina Stojanovic led the women’s team with a second-place finish in the 6K race, crossing the line in 22:37, just one second behind the individual winner. Sydney Moudy finished third, and Virginia Tirado placed fifth overall. Maria Tirado finished seventh with a time of 23:41, and Hannah Mitchell was 12th in 24:28. Macy Robertson rounded out the Lady Crusaders’ lineup with a time of 24:49.
On the men’s side, Matthew McGuire led William Carey with a third-place finish in the 8K race, clocking in at 25:36. Luke Skinner finished fifth overall. Nate Bread was 17th in 29:18, Julius Giller crossed in 30:34, and Niklas Moilanen followed closely behind with a time of 30:40.
William Carey is scheduled to return to competition on Oct. 16, when both teams travel to Clinton, Mississippi, to compete in the Watson Classic hosted by Mississippi Christian, according to athletic officials.
