Mississippi State beats Missouri to move to 4-0, eyes Alabama showdown

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State is 4-0 after a 31-24 win over No. 19 Missouri in front of a sold-out Davis Wade Stadium, marking the Bulldogs’ best start since recent memory, according to the team.

Head coach Jeff Lebby said his team is playing with confidence and has control over its future. “We’re the ones holding the pen,” Lebby said. “It’s about resetting and getting ready for next Saturday against Alabama.”

State also opened SEC play with a comeback victory at South Carolina and defeated Minnesota on the road earlier this season. Despite a similar 4-0 record last year, Lebby emphasized the difference in the current team’s maturity and resilience. “Every week, the tests get tougher, and we find a way to be up for the challenges,” he added.

Lebby praised his players’ effort and the culture built within the program. “We’ve been stacking good days, getting better practice by practice,” he said. “Winning is about consistency and going 1-0 each week.”

The Bulldogs now face a difficult October schedule, including games against top-10 Alabama at home, and road trips to LSU and No. 1 Texas. Lebby acknowledged the challenges ahead but remains optimistic. “There’s a lot left in front of us, but that’s the exciting part,” he said. “We can play better, and we need to capitalize on that potential.”
