The Western Carolina University men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at the Southern Showcase, held at Jacksonville State University in Huntsville, Alabama.
The women’s team finished fifth overall, led by Kristina Stojanovic, who placed 14th in the 5K race with a time of 19:26. Sydney Moudy finished 29th in 20:09, while Virginia Tirado was 36th in 20:35. Hannah Mitchell, Maria Tirado and Macy Robertson also scored for the Lady Crusaders, finishing in 21:07, 21:14, and 21:18, respectively.
The men’s team finished 20th. Matthew McGuire led the Crusaders, crossing the finish line 13th in the 8K race with a time of 26:13. Luke Skinner finished 22nd in 26:40. Niklas Moilanen completed the course in 30:02, followed by Nate Beard in 30:30 and Julius Giller in 31:29.
Both teams are scheduled to return to competition Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Firehawk Invitational in Oakville, Alabama.
