Owls Women’s Tennis Wins Two Matches in Fall Season

COLOMBUS, Miss. — Mississippi University for Women’s tennis team won two matches Saturday, improving to 2-1 on the fall season. The Owls defeated Mississippi Valley State University 5-2 at the Garrett Courts and Huntingdon College 4-3 at the Magnolia Tennis Center.

Against the NCAA Division I Delta Devils, the highlight was the No. 1 doubles match, where Laura Camara and Orianna Roldan defeated Ruramai Nyamakura and Claudia Lopez 6-0. This set the tone for the day, according to the school.

The Owls’ win over Huntingdon College ended a five-match losing streak against the Hawks and marked their first victory over HC since September 2022. MUW opened with wins in two of three doubles matches. Camara and Roldan won 6-3 at first doubles, while Bailey Flynn and Elizabeth McCool took a 6-4 victory at second doubles.

MUW secured the overall team win by winning three singles matches in straight sets. Camara defeated Dalyce Sanders 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Roldan beat Emma Rose 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Flynn topped Skylar White 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, clinching the victory for the Owls.
