William Carey Men’s Tennis Remains Unbeaten with Wins Over MVSU and Huntingdon

The William Carey men’s tennis team extended its unbeaten streak to start the 2026-27 season with two wins on Saturday. The Owls defeated Mississippi Valley State University 4-3 at the Garrett Courts and then beat Huntingdon College 5-2 at the Magnolia Tennis Center.

Against MVSU, the Owls secured the doubles point with a win at No. 1 doubles, where David Gimenez and Luis Oliva defeated Julien Cordero and Juan Alejandro Rozo 6-4. The singles matches were split, with William Carey earning three wins and Mississippi Valley State three. The Delta Devils’ singles victories kept the match close, but the Owls held on for the win.

The match against Huntingdon was moved to the Magnolia Tennis Center due to rain. William Carey swept all three doubles matches to start the contest, with Jorge Catala Ortiz and Alvaro Bardales winning 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. The Owls then dominated in singles, winning four straight-set matches at Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 6 singles to secure the victory. Notable wins included Juan Garcia at No. 4 singles and newcomer Martin Gamonal at No. 6 singles.

This marked the second consecutive victory over Huntingdon for William Carey, which previously lost all 10 matches in the series history. The team’s strong start suggests it could be a contender this season.
