Millsaps Women’s Soccer Edges MUW 1-0 in Midweek Match

The Millsaps women’s soccer team defeated Mississippi University for Women 1-0 at Roger Short Soccer Complex on Wednesday night. Freshman Madison Perez scored her first collegiate goal, securing the victory for the Majors.

Perez, who took three shots on goal, was assisted by classmate Eden Birch. Senior Alex Bremond led Millsaps with five shots and four on target. Freshmen Victoria Viquez and Jordyn Templeton each added two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Borden made nine saves in her first start, helping keep the Owls at bay.

The Majors struck early, with Bremond firing a shot in the third minute. MUW responded with three consecutive shots, but Borden caught each attempt. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Perez found the net after a feed from Birch, giving Millsaps a 1-0 lead.

In the first half, MUW applied pressure, recording four shots, all saved by Borden. The Owls continued their attack in the second half, totaling eight saves and nine shots overall. MUW’s goalkeeper made four key saves between the 75th and 80th minutes to keep her team in the game.

The Owls launched their final offensive in the 83rd, 85th, and 90th minutes. Their last shot, with 32 seconds remaining, sailed over the net. Bremond had an opportunity for a final shot for Millsaps before MUW’s last corner kick, which led to the game-winning goal.
