MISSISSIPPI DELTA — Taylor Wooten led Mississippi Valley State University volleyball with nine kills in a 3-0 loss to Dillard on Wednesday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex. The Delta Devils, now 1-8 on the season, struggled to find offensive consistency early but showed improvement in the second and third sets.
MVSU fell in straight sets, with scores of 10-25, 20-25, and 21-25. The team found more offensive rhythm in the second set, hitting .281 and recording 12 kills. Wooten and Aniyah Moore each contributed four kills during that period. Despite the improved effort, Dillard edged out the Delta Devils to take the set.
In the third set, MVSU opened strong with a 5-2 lead but eventually fell behind 10-5. The Delta Devils rallied to tie the score twice, at 11-11 and 12-12, and later pulled within two points at 21-19. They fought off two match points with consecutive kills from Aubrie Walker but ultimately lost the set 25-21. Wooten and Walker each added four kills in that frame.
Moore contributed on both sides of the net with five kills and a team-high two solo blocks, helping MVSU finish with a 6-5 edge in team blocks. Setter Kameryn Browne led the team with 16 assists, while Hannah St. Croix added nine. Defensive efforts were led by Taylor Wilson with 10 digs, followed by Ashlynn Hawkins with six.
Dillard was led by Neveah Bax, who recorded 16 kills. Mississippi Valley State will begin Southwestern Athletic Conference play at home against Texas Southern on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
