Mississippi Valley State Volleyball Falls to Prairie View A&M in Three Sets
MISSISSIPPI DELTA — Mississippi Valley State’s volleyball team concluded its weekend SWAC homestand with a 3-0 loss to Prairie View A&M on Sunday afternoon at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
The Delta Devils battled throughout the match and played their best in the third set, but Prairie View A&M secured the victory with set scores of 25-11, 25-13, 25-23. MVSU finished with 22 kills, 33 digs, 18 assists, three service aces, and four team blocks.
Aubrie Walker led the Delta offense with seven kills and added seven digs. Taylor Wooten contributed four kills, five digs, one ace, and two block assists. Aniyah Moore also posted four kills and one ace while anchoring the defensive effort at the net. Brooklyn Brunt recorded four kills on nine attacks. Kameryn Browne directed the offense with 13 assists and three digs, while Erin Mims added five assists.
Prairie View A&M took control early in the first set, opening a lead with an early scoring run and winning 25-11. Valley produced seven kills but struggled with nine attacking errors. In the second set, Prairie View maintained its advantage and won 25-13, despite Valley showing some sparks at the service line with aces from Browne and Moore.
The third set was the most competitive, with Mississippi Valley State producing 11 kills and hitting a season-best .179. The Delta Devils overcame an early deficit to take a 7-5 lead. The set saw 15 ties and six lead changes, including a 23-23 deadlock. Walker contributed four kills in this frame, while Brunt, Moore, and Wooten added key points. Prairie View A&M ultimately closed out the set and match with two final points, winning 25-23.
With the loss, Mississippi Valley State moves to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in SWAC play. The team will host Jackson State on Wednesday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m., according to team officials.
