Mississippi State Volleyball Opens SEC Play With Five-Set Victory Over LSU

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State Bulldogs opened SEC volleyball play with a 3-2 victory over LSU, staying perfect at home this season. The match was highlighted by a spirited team effort, according to head coach Julie Darty Dennis.

“What a total team win with all-out effort, some guts, and a whole lot of heart and hustle. I am so proud of my team for fighting that out in five,” Dennis said. “The SEC is tough from top to bottom, and everyone is always going to bring their best. They earned every point in that win.”

MSU started strong, winning the first set 25-21 after a 9-0 run. They took the second set 25-20 before LSU fought back to win the third and fourth sets. The Bulldogs secured the victory with a commanding 15-5 win in the fifth set.

Lindsey Mangelson had a record-breaking night with 62 attacks, leading to 23 kills. Paloma Routaboul matched her career high with 13 kills, while Gha’Naye Whitfield-Moss hit .750 and added 12 kills. Bernadita Aguilar and Noella Obi contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Three Bulldogs posted double-doubles. Mangelson had 23 kills and 14 digs, Aguilar added 11 kills and 10 digs, and Adriana Jeanpierre recorded her first double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs. Erin Kline made her season debut with 11 assists, and Cayley Hanson dished out 34 assists. Hanson also tied her season high with three service aces, and McKenna Yates led the team defensively with 20 digs.
