Jackson State Defeats Mississippi Valley State in SWAC Volleyball Match

Jackson State defeated Mississippi Valley State in three sets Wednesday night at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex. The Tigers won by scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-16, improving to 7-9 overall and 3-0 in SWAC play. The Delta Devils fell to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Taylor Wooten led Mississippi Valley State with seven kills, six digs, and a block assist. Aubrie Walker added five kills, six digs, a solo block, and two block assists. Brooklyn Brunt finished with four kills and two blocks. Setter Kameryn Browne directed the offense with 16 assists and a service ace. Dashaun Pinesette contributed two aces and five digs from the service line.

Defensively, the Delta Devils recorded six team blocks, compared to Jackson State’s five. Aniyah Moore posted one solo block and three block assists. The opening set was tightly contested, featuring five ties and four lead changes, but Jackson State pulled away late for a 25-14 victory. Mississippi Valley State showed resilience in the second set, trailing 9-4 but rallying to cut the deficit to 23-17 before falling 25-17. In the third, the Delta Devils kept fighting with contributions from multiple players and improved their side-out percentage to 52 percent, but Jackson State secured the win with a 25-16 score.

The Delta Devils finished with 19 kills, 28 digs, three service aces, and six team blocks. Mississippi Valley State will host Florida A&M on Friday at 2 p.m. at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
