Mississippi Valley State volleyball opened its home schedule with a victory over Wiley University before losing to Nicholls State in the final match of the Mississippi Valley State Tri-Match on Saturday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
The Delta Devils defeated Wiley 3-1, with set scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-17. They then fell 3-0 to Nicholls, losing by scores of 14-25, 16-25 and 10-25.
In the opening match, MVSU used a balanced offensive attack and strong net play to secure its first win of the season. Brooklyn Brunt and Taylor Wooten each had 10 kills. Brunt posted a .240 hitting percentage and added three blocks, while Wooten contributed 12 digs and two solo blocks. Hannah St. Croix finished with eight kills and a team-high .250 hitting percentage, along with three blocks. Aniyah Moore added seven kills and six blocks, including two solo stops. Aubrie Walker totaled six kills, 12 digs, two blocks and an ace.
The Delta Devils finished with 46 kills, 45 assists, 71 digs and 13 team blocks. Erin Mims dished out 21 assists and recorded two aces, while Kameryn Browne had 18 assists and 10 digs. Defensively, Ashlynn Hawkins led the team with 15 digs. Wooten and Walker each added 12 digs.
Wiley evened the match in the second set with a 25-23 victory, but MVSU responded by winning the third set 25-23. The Delta Devils sealed the win with a 25-17 final set.
In the second match, MVSU faced a potent Nicholls attack that hit .322 and recorded 37 kills. Moore led the team with five kills on nine attempts for a .444 hitting percentage and added two solo blocks for seven points. Walker and Wooten each contributed four kills, while St. Croix and Brunt each finished with three. Mims handed out nine assists and had five digs, and Browne added seven assists.
Nicholls pulled away in the second set, winning 25-16, and completed the sweep with a 25-10 victory in the third. Mississippi Valley State finished the day with a 1-1 record in its first home tournament of 2026, according to school officials.
