Millsaps Women’s Soccer Falls to Centenary on Senior Night
The Millsaps College women’s soccer team was edged 4-2 by Centenary College on Friday at Harper Davis Field in Jackson, Mississippi. The match marked Senior Night, with the program recognizing seniors Alex Bremond, Becca Quick, and Reese Brasseaux during a pregame ceremony.
Bremond scored her only shot and added an assist, finishing with three points. Freshman Hailie Moorer led Millsaps with four shots, placing three on goal. Freshman Kayla Borden made six saves across the full 90 minutes. Freshman Henley Havens contributed an assist and one shot.
Millsaps scored both of its goals after halftime. The team briefly tied the game at 2-2 between 68:48 and 75:19, despite facing four Centenary attacking opportunities. The Lady Centenary team had 15 shots and 10 on goal, while Millsaps managed 12 shots with six on target.
The game started with Centenary applying early pressure, earning three corner kicks and taking two shots from the 8th to 16th minutes. Borden made a key save to keep the match scoreless. Centenary took a 1-0 lead at 27 seconds following a goal by Valerie Miranda and added another at 22:05.
Millsaps responded with multiple efforts, including Moorer’s shot at 23:59 and efforts from Zillia Biniam and Victoria Viquez. The teams went into halftime with a 2-0 deficit for the home team. In the second half, Bremond scored from Havens’ assist at 48:14, and Moorer netted her second goal at 55:15, tying the game. Borden made four second-half saves, thwarting several Centenary chances.
Centenary regained the lead with goals at 76:44 and 78:58. Millsaps pushed forward late, earning a corner kick in the 90th minute and a shot from Biniam, but could not score again. The match concluded with a 4-2 victory for the Ladies.
