Belhaven Blazers Defeat Lyon 3-1 Behind Sanchez Double

BASTEVILLE, Ark. — Adrian Sanchez scored twice in the first four minutes of the second half, helping Belhaven earn a 3-1 win over Lyon on Friday at J. Marshall Huser Soccer Field.

The victory was the second consecutive win for the Blazers, who improved to 2-4 this season. Wyatt Dupre opened the scoring for Belhaven with an unassisted goal at 8:19. The team maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime after Justin Ramirez made three saves, stopping shots from Micah Rangel and Pol Torres Lligadas.

Belhaven quickly added to its lead after the break. Ricardo Flores set up Sanchez 44 seconds into the second half, and the pair connected again at 48:49 to give the Blazers a 3-0 advantage. Sanchez has now scored in three consecutive matches, finishing with four shots, two goals and two shots on target in the game.

Flores contributed two assists, and Dupre scored on his only shot of the match. The Blazers nearly added a fourth goal in the 67th minute when Graham Harris hit the right post. Lyon scored its lone goal at 84:05, when Andre Rodriguez found the net. Belhaven’s defense held strong in the final minutes, allowing just one shot.

Belhaven finished with a 12-10 shot advantage and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Ramirez played all 90 minutes, making three saves to earn the win. The team continues its Arkansas road trip later this weekend against Hendrix in Conway. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
