Sarzalejo Scores Bicycle Kick, Ramirez Saves Penalty in Belhaven Win Over Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. — Diego Sarzalejo scored on a bicycle kick in the first half, and Justin Ramirez saved a penalty kick late in the second as Belhaven defeated Millsaps 1-0 in the Riverside Derby on Tuesday night at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

The win marked Belhaven’s sixth consecutive victory, tying the program’s longest winning streak since its 2024 CCS championship run. The Blazers previously won six in a row from Oct. 15 to Nov. 9, ending that stretch with a 2-0 win at Covenant in the conference title match.

Tuesday’s result also extended Belhaven’s winning streak over Millsaps to five games and marked its second straight 1-0 victory in the series. Ramirez was active early, making three saves in the first half, including two from Zachary Diamond. Belhaven created chances of its own; Ricardo Flores forced a save in the 18th minute, and Wyatt Dupre hit the woodwork in the 23rd.

Sarzalejo broke the deadlock at 35:07, scoring off an assist from Flores to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead at halftime. Millsaps pressed after the break, taking seven shots and earning six corner kicks in the second half. Ramirez made a key save on Alden Romano in the 81st minute before denying Ellis Dykes’ penalty kick at 81:44, sealing the victory.

Ramirez finished with five saves, and Ciaran Colvin played all 90 minutes on the back line for Belhaven. Millsaps held a slight edge in shots, 12-11, and corners, 10-4. Sarzalejo and Wyatt Dupre each took two shots for the Blazers. Belhaven returns to conference play Saturday at Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
